Doubled

Reflecting on the manifestation of one’s internal self in the physical, external world, the artist captures themselves within their personal space in a split, and doubled exposure.

The artist first attempts to capture themselves in their space on a roll of film’s worth of self-portraits. They then roll the film back, shooting once again, this time of the space itself. This creates a double exposure, layering the external self with an impression of the external space; both captured by the camera in the hands of the self. The process introduces a factor of chance to the work, allowing compositions to present themselves. This produces a series that reflects an experience of life itself as an overlapping, intersecting, random, yet harmonious, personal, and purposeful.
